Tree of Life from Kabbalah. Spheres and paths contain colors for both the king and queen scale. The white zigzag down the middle is known as the path of the flaming sword.

Inspired by Hilma af Klint’s Altarpieces Series. The very beginning of this piece started with the idea of squaring the circle. Less so in the construction but more so in the proportional relationship between a circle and square with the same area.

I then realized that I could combine No. 1 and No. 2 in the Altarpieces Series. As I was constructing the linework I saw a way to work in No. 3. This painting was made with the intention of learning the symbolism and shape/color language Klint used.

Inspired by Hilma af Klint’s The Evolution - The WUS/Seven-Pointed Star Series, Group VI. Mostly a synthesis of No. 15 and No. 16.

When it was nearly finished I came across a diagram based on the insights Carl Jung had regarding the self. The intent of this painting was to learn more of the meaning behind Klint’s shape/color language.

While painting Cosmic Egg I became curious about labyrinths and mazes. The white and gold square is the seed of this labyrinth. The top center-right of the white square is the official beginning to the labyrinth. I wanted to incorporate more mythos and so tried to find a way to allude to the story of the minotaur.

So the top section was added as the idea of going down into the dark. Then you enter the labyrinth in brightness but must traverse back into the depths as you progress. To me, it parallels with one’s consciousness.

One squared represented as the center white circle. Two squared are the circles touching the outer edge of the center white circle. Three squared circles are scaled so that the outer ring of circles touches the edges of the two squared circles. This pattern continues for four squared.

Painting began by dividing the canvas into thirds from the bottom center to the top corners. The spaces were then divided into thirds again. Star burst pattern is created by taking a circle and dividing it by 3/3/3/3. The white stripes are finished with a glow in the dark pigment.

Based on my painting “Move Over the Waters”. Emerging out of the void are rings. Each ring is divided into portions along the pattern of the Fibonacci Sequence.

A flower pattern emerged out of a set of overlapping circles. While painting, I noticed the vague shape of a hamsa. Following the pattern of past hamsa symbols, I included the eye. Later the outside edges felt like webs and I began to see a spider within the hamsa. Once all of the pieces were painted the piece finally felt complete.

Concentric copies of the Enneagram shape. The ninth copy is the boundary for the circle. With each iteration the yellow and blue combos oscillate. Within the yellow combo are 3 colors that oscillate. Within the blue combo are 4 colors that oscillate. Outside the circle are 2 colors that oscillate. Total of nine colors.

36”x24” Acrylic on canvas. This painting began as a curiosity. Taking the length of the right side and dividing it by two, I marked that length on the top side and connected that point to the bottom right corner. Continuing the pattern I took the remaining length of the top side to mark a distance on the left side. I continued working my way around the space, spiraling inwards. After the first set of division I took each of the angles that were created and divided them in half. Arcs were then placed on each vertex and at the middle point of each line segment. Then more strange rules that I made up as I went that pushed this to be what it is.

Acrylic paint on canvas. The underlying structure is based off 2 golden spirals offset by the golden angle. All of the wall tiles are concentric circles to the vanishing point. Everything was repainted at least twice as precision became more and more important.

While painting this I thought of the growth of the ego. One draws upon the past. Making choices that will then be imprinted onto the person we are growing into.
