Started as an adaptation of the ambiguous ring illusion into a lemniscate. Then evolved into an ouroboros.

This painting started out as an exploration of the Greek meander pattern. This pushed me further into Greek iconography. Which led me to the Xiphos, a double-edged, one-handed Iron Age straight shortsword. Colors were also inspired by the era. I pixellated the design of the sword to keep with the block motif. There is some loose symbolism of the sword representing the mind. And so is placed on a pedestal, “glowing”, and piercing the upper bounds of the meander pattern.

Tree of Life from Kabbalah. Spheres and paths contain colors for both the king and queen scale. The white zigzag down the middle is known as the path of the flaming sword.

I took a sticker I had made from an older painting, cut it up, and rearranged the wording to develop this painting.

Inspired by Hilma af Klint’s Dove Series. The starting idea was to create Klint’s No. 1 using a limaçon (a roulette curve formed by the path of a point fixed to a circle when that circle rolls around another circle). This caused other proportions to need alteration. Colors remained close to the original. The purpose of creating this painting was to gain a deeper understanding of Klint’s body of work.

Inspired by Hilma af Klint’s The Evolution - The WUS/Seven-Pointed Star Series, Group VI. Mostly a synthesis of No. 15 and No. 16.

When it was nearly finished I came across a diagram based on the insights Carl Jung had regarding the self. The intent of this painting was to learn more of the meaning behind Klint’s shape/color language.

Inspired by Hilma af Klint’s Altarpieces Series. The very beginning of this piece started with the idea of squaring the circle. Less so in the construction but more so in the proportional relationship between a circle and square with the same area.

I then realized that I could combine No. 1 and No. 2 in the Altarpieces Series. As I was constructing the linework I saw a way to work in No. 3. This painting was made with the intention of learning the symbolism and shape/color language Klint used.

While painting Cosmic Egg I became curious about labyrinths and mazes. The white and gold square is the seed of this labyrinth. The top center-right of the white square is the official beginning to the labyrinth. I wanted to incorporate more mythos and so tried to find a way to allude to the story of the minotaur.

So the top section was added as the idea of going down into the dark. Then you enter the labyrinth in brightness but must traverse back into the depths as you progress. To me, it parallels with one’s consciousness.

The second image is a painting I did for a friend. It was that seed of an idea that led to this piece. The black spiral was inspired by Hilma af Klint’s Parsifal Series - Group 1 - No. 1
